I agree, we should not rely on over the counter laxatives to get a fast relief from constipation. Herbal would be better. Flax seed is actually an effective home remedy for constipation. The husk is abundant with dietary fibers--around 4 grams per 1/4 cup of ground flax seed. When taken moderately on a regular basis, flax seed becomes a natural laxative. Don't forget medications as potential cause of constipation. Recent study from Mayo Clinic found acetaminophen and asprin and similar drugs increase risk for constipation.
